Support the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired at the Great Grilled Cheese Off!

The St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired is one of the featured disability nonprofits that will be participating in the Great Grilled Cheese Off this year! They will have a booth with information and activities so you will be able to learn more about their important mission.

The Society, founded in 1911, provides a full range of Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation Services to over 1,200 individuals each year through the Drews Low Vision Clinic, Social Work Services, Adjustment, Transportation, and In-Home services.  All services are provided by licensed and/or certified Specialists, including a Doctor of Optometry, an Occupational Therapist, Vision Rehabilitation Therapists, Orientation & Mobility Specialists and Social Workers.

The primary causes of vision loss in older adults include Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma and Cataracts, and these eye diseases have led to more than 53,000 people age 65 and older in metro St. Louis reporting vision loss, many with more than one diagnosed eye condition. The Society’s programs and services are specially designed for individuals with low vision and are focused on helping people maintain, restore or adapt skills to allow the individual to remain safe and independent in their own home, & involved in their family, home and community.
